The Alexander Technique is perhaps most well known in the Performing Arts world. For over a century, musicians, actors, and dancers have turned to the Alexander Technique for injury prevention and to improve performance.
The Alexander Technique is imbedded in the curriculum of conservatories and university performing arts programs such as the Juilliard School of Performing Arts in New York and the Royal College of Music in London.
My Experience
I came to the Alexander Technique as a flutist suffering from chronic pain. By the time I was in a graduate program, my symptoms were interfering with being able to even practice - hand numbness, pain, and impaired breathing are not good things for a flutist!
The AT recognizes how the mind and body are meant to naturally work together, and my teacher helped me recognize how I was interfering with that delicate balance, providing me with skills to regain my natural poise, live pain free, and improve my abilities as a musician.
I now wish to share my experience and expertise with other musicians and performing artists as an Alexander Technique teacher.
